I’m relatively new to the crochet craft. Picked it up again recently and in the last 6 months or so I’ve made an afghan for my son and his wife for their wedding and multitudes of scarves and hats. My fascination with Amigurumi is relatively new but I didn’t think as a new crocheter that I’d be successful. While I was at Michaels a few months I picked up Vanna’s Choice: Easy Crochet Critters because it said “Easy” on the cover. My first project was a small hippo that I named Chloe.
I am proud of the way she came out but she is without eyes, nose or a tail. I struggled to attach her legs. I guess I should have read the directions a little better. Yes I stuffed Chloe and closed her up before I was supposed to. She’s a reminder to me to pay closer attention to the pattern, but I love her anyway.
My next amigurumi project was Gertie the little blue bird. I decided to treat myself to a crochet class on Craftsy called Amigurumi: Woodland Animals and created Gertie. I’ve only created one of the 3 or 4 animals that Stacy Trock guides us in creating. The online class is very informative! I finished up my bird and I’m proud of completing her. Next animal I’m going to watch that I’m doing when crocheting through the loop.. I was a bit inconsistent and it shows a bit at the top of the bird. Towards the bottom the stitches are cleaner and more consistent. I would definitely recommend this course if you want a step by step guide to creating amigurumi. She also provides some good skill building techniques.
The next project is a Teddy Bear and I have my yarn rolled up and ready to start! I’ll post my progress!
